The Human Side of Home Technology Integration

Barrett’s Technology Solutions system integration team.

Meet the Team Behind the Home Automation Magic

If you peek behind the scenes at Barrett’s Technology Solutions, you'll find something pretty special. While we've been bringing the latest home entertainment and technology to clients for over fifty years, it's our unique approach to installation that sets us apart. Before any equipment reaches your home, we carefully assemble, program, and test it in our own deployment facility. As with most things, it’s the people that make it work. Below, you’ll get to learn more about them, understand what they do, and what fuels their passion for custom technology integration.

Every Day Brings Something New

Just ask Doug Rowley, our System Integration Manager, who's been with us for eighteen years. "Every day is different. That's part of the fun and excitement of custom work," he says enthusiastically. On any given day, you might find Doug's team juggling multiple projects—some just starting with basic equipment rack assembly, others wrapping up with final client handovers.

In our deployment facility, Doug orchestrates a careful dance between fieldwork, in-shop testing, and on-site installations. "We open up all of the equipment and get their firmware updated and address sets and test thoroughly here in the shop before we bring it out to a client's house," he explains. It's all about making sure everything runs smoothly when it reaches your home.

Nathan Aviles, one of our System Integration Specialists, plays a key role in this preparation phase. "I primarily help with setting up our systems and equipment in our testing room, making sure everything is working as it should," Nathan says. From updating firmware to running essential tests, his work ensures that when a system reaches your home, it's ready to perform flawlessly.

Networking – The Foundation of Modern Homes

When you ask our team what really matters in today's home technology, they'll tell you it all starts with the network. "The home network has really become the most important subsystem in your home," Doug explains. "It's almost as important as electricity or plumbing." He's not exaggerating—think about it: "Your kids can't do their homework, you can't do your work, you can't watch your TV without your network."

Our Integration Specialist, Nathan, has seen firsthand how crucial this foundation is. While he initially pursued networking out of general interest, his experience at Barrett's has deepened his understanding. "Having a reliable network at home is pretty crucial," he notes. "If the network fails, control of your home is just not going to happen, or at least not smoothly."

A Team Driven by Passion

What makes our integration team special isn't just their technical expertise—they genuinely love what they do. "This isn't work for me. This is like my passion, so I love to keep learning about this stuff," says Alex O'Mara, our Senior System Integration Specialist. That enthusiasm for learning and growing is exactly what we look for in our team members.

For Nathan, joining our team has been about more than just the technical work. "I enjoy being a part of the Barrett's team," he shares. "I've been able to draw closer to my team, even others who I don't work directly with." This collaborative spirit helps us deliver the best possible results for our clients.

Doug's 18-year journey with us speaks volumes about the culture we've built. As he points out, technology keeps evolving. "Every device you have is on the network now. You think about the devices in your pocket or on your wrist, or even your car overnight might be downloading firmware." Keeping up with these changes requires a team that's truly passionate about what they do.

The Human Element

Many integrators can offer similar technology, but we believe it's the human element that sets us apart. Our team thrives on solving challenges, staying ahead of evolving technology, and delivering the best possible experience for our clients. When you work with us, you're not just getting home automation solutions—you're getting a team that treats your home like their own.
